Our Story

We gather weekly to have fun playing orchestral music together

Sixty years ago a group of friends decided to meet regularly in their lounge rooms in Indooroopilly to play music. Indooroopilly Chamber Orchestra grew out of this informal music group, and has been meeting regularly in various forms since the 1950s.

Our playing members currently range from 21 years old to 85 years young – and include two of the original “lounge room musicians”. Some of our players have graduated from Australia’s iconic youth orchestras while others started playing an instrument in later years. Our common ground is the pleasure of playing.

As a community orchestra, we always welcome new players. We don’t audition – we figure that if you enjoy playing orchestral music we’ll find a part for you to play. As we expand to full symphony orchestra size, we will be particularly interested in welcoming more strings and brass players.

We rehearse most Thursday evenings throughout the year at St David’s Parish Hall, Appel St, Chelmer; however we sometimes rehearse at different venues, or have a short break following a concert, so please contact us if you would like more information about our rehearsal schedule.

Through our public performances, we provide an opportunity for our friends, families and the wider community to hear our music and share our enjoyment of playing. Find out about our next concert here
